Hungarian, tyres & penguins, oh my! The wonder from Central St Martins Graduates.

I had thought all my posts on GFW had finished…that was until I came upon the wonder that is Central St Martins.

As you know, (if you don’t you certainly should!), everyone worth their salt has attend St Martins, Christopher Kane, Phoebe Philo & of course Alexander the great. So you do expect something a little bit special/different from St Martins……

The winner: Flaminia Saccucci

The look: Floral, printed, Latex.

Loved: The legs…how they looked like tyre tracks that continued beyond the tights….ingenious.

Reminds me: The of the elegance of Erdem with a mix of Christopher Kane for impact.

1st Runner Up: Nicholas Aburn

The Look: Brown penguin jackets with Spanish hats.

Loved: The hats!

Reminds me: Not sure….which shows it's totally original.

2nd Runner Up: Momo Wang

The Look: Hungarian Folk dancers.

Loved: Just how bonkers it was, while maintaining a subtle color palette.

Reminds me: A little, teenie-weenie bit of Galliano’s A/W’09 collection, the Turkish snow storm one, remember? But a much more tongue and cheek version.

And the winner of GFW is….

Who: Rory Longdon

From Where: Nottingham Trent University

Specialism: Knitwear

Prize: £20,000

Rory’s collection was amazingly futuristic.

Metallic, bodycon, zipped hems, layers, geometric patterns…truly inspiring. (It is reminiscent of Christopher Kane’s graduate show but in monochromatic palate.)

Clever, eye catching, fresh, unique and thoroughly exciting.

Since it was sponsored by George @ Asda maybe these thin knits will be at a supermarket near you in the not too distint future....fingers crossed!

More from GFW: Focus on Jennie Dyer

Who: Jennie Dyer

From: Kingston University

Specialism’s: Fashion/Textile/Accessories- Womenswear

Jennie not only showcased her catwalk collection but also was shortlisted for the Mulberry (yes MULBERRY) Accessories award).

Her submission, a quilted elongated masterpiece. It is original yet strangely classic through the muted nude tone and the quilted texture, a nod to the classics, such as Chanel.

It’s Inspiration? The Victorian 'Misers purse'. That’s a coin purse with is traditionally hung from a belt to you & me. Forget the idea of a money belt worn by tourist! Think CHIC.

It could be the ALEXA or BAYSWATER of the FUTURE!

Jennie Dyer. Remember her name!

Some of Jennie Dyer's past work

Above, a Marni project that was inspired by tribal masks & graffiti.
